When policymakers do not understand our industry or have outdated ideas about us, their policy decisions can impede good waste management practices, reduce the quality of life in our communities and weaken our bottom lines as businesses. That is why we must regularly reach out to government officials – whether in city hall or in the statehouse – to ensure they understand our issues and how their decisions affect us and the communities we serve. For most NWSMA members, government relations activities are a natural part of doing business. But for others, it’s still a remote and distant activity. NWSMA leads the solid waste industry’s government relations efforts with a network of active state chapters, leading state lobbyists and a growing Federal presence. By being a part of these joint NSWMA government relations activities, companies increase the likelihood that the industry’s voice will be heard in legislative and regulatory discussions.
In many instances, these government relations efforts are enhanced by different sorts of outreach efforts. You and your company can have a big impact by learning how to engage in outreach to government officials. So, whether you’re a seasoned pro or new to this game, please join us on Thursday, October 22nd from 2-3 p.m. EDT for our next “Environmentalists. Every Day.” grassroots communications training webinar. During the session, you will hear from companies just like yours as they discuss best practices for communicating with government officials. You will learn how easy it is to launch government outreach programs as we share strategies and tips.
In addition, all webinar participants will be entered in a random drawing to win one of two American Express gift certificates.
