The EIA Women’s Council is pleased to offer an educational scholarship program for NSWMA and WASTEC member employees and their dependents. This program assists qualified individuals in pursuit of undergraduate or graduate education related to a career in the environmental industry. It has awarded scholarships to nearly a dozen people during the last three years. In 2010, scholarships of $2,500 will be awarded. The submission deadline is March 31. Visit www.environmentalistseveryday.org/womenscouncil for more information.
I would like to apply for the scholarship, but, I just found out that it is for members only and their dependents.
It would have been great if I could have applied. I have worked in municipal government for the city of Chicago for the past 21 years and have recently graduated from Columbia Southern University with a BS in environnmental management with a 3.30 gpa. I guess its back to the drawing board for me.
Respectfully,
Joyce Banks
While you’re correct that municipal solid waste employees generally don’t qualify for NSWMA or WASTEC membership, they can join as individual EIA members (more info: http://environmentalistseveryday.org/membership-solid-waste-industry-associations/eia-member-benefits/index.php). And EIA members are eligible to apply for an EIA Women’s Council scholarship. If you’re interested in continuing your studies in this area and plan to stick with the industry (even as a municipal employee), EIA membership is something that you might want to consider. Cheers!
